As a news intern at The Gainesville Sun, I have had the opportunity to learn a little about many different activities and events that have occurred in Gainesville. I have written for a few publications previous to this experience, but the dedication and work ethic that had to come with this internship was unlike anything I had previously done.
The stories below are representative of some of the work I did while at The Gainesville Sun and also include work I did previous to the internship. Overall, the links at the top are my most recent work and the links at the bottom are my beginning stories.
Unfortunately, not all of my stories are online and therefore I cannot include them here. I plan to scan the stories and post them soon.
I believe through my experience as a news intern, I have become a little more bold and creative with my writing. When I first began writing as a journalism major, I felt stuck to writing every story with a specific formula in mind. As I have progressed in my major, I have learned that there are times when creativity will improve a story, but of course there are always times when it is not beneficial.
Some of these stories I am especially proud of because I went to my editor or I contacted the freelance editor and asked if I could do the stories. These stories are here, shown by the links "LGBTQ Protesters", "Study: Annual Checkups may not be worth it", and "Get to know UF ambassadors". There are a few others as well.
